It is my mission as an eLearning designer to create high quality, interactive virtual courses for my clients. This blog is a means to document the passion, ingenuity, and trials that I face as I go through this process as a means to help others in the industry. I won’t say specifically that I want to be an instructional design influencer, but I believe that it is something that is not exactly common in our industry and could add value.
I expect that the bulk of my posts will revolve around the following categories:
- Portfolio: Having just left the corporate world, my portfolio is made up entirely of confidential content. My goal is to develop a public-facing portfolio that can double as resources for fellow designers or possibly even course concepts that I have an interest in exploring. At any rate, expect to see more samples in the future that will showcase what I can do. Next week, I will release a sample course on writing ABCD objectives – a simple concept, but something that could be valuable for new course authors and subject matter experts.
- Tutorials: I love both pushing the boundaries of standard features in software and teaching others what I have learned. It’s only natural that this space will play host to videos I have created to help teach my fellow designers. Instructional designers get pulled into so many different directions that, though these tutorials will primarily feature Articulate Storyline, it is possible they could span any number of different software. In two weeks, I will release a tutorial on using JavaScript in Storyline that allows students to copy text elements from the slide.
- Research and Reflections: Reflection leads to a higher level of learning, so whether it comes through as writing or a video, I plan to study up on one new or hot trend each month and reflect on it. I feel like designers are so swamped that they aren’t able to take time to continue their education, which leads to stagnation and decline in passion for what they are doing. Setting goals like this will help keep me accountable when it comes to professional development. In the grand scheme of things, I love what I do and want to share my thoughts on it with the world. I am not sure which topic I will be researching, but expect something by the end of the month.
- Design Life: Coming out of a major corporate burnout fog has taught me how important it is to recognize that there is a world outside of work. Judging by the Great Resignation, I am not alone in this. I find it helpful to discuss important things that affect the life of a designer, so will share a glimpse behind the curtain. In the next few weeks, I will share my thoughts on burnout since it is at the forefront of my mind.
It is a fresh start for me and I look forward to what may come out of this site. To anyone reading, I want to welcome you to my world and thank you for your time!
